David Orace Shaffer, 72, of Canton, passed away peacefully with his daughter by his side. He was born on April 19, 1948 in Galesburg, IL to Leland and Esther (Allen) Shaffer. He first married Gloria Burgett on February 5, 1967. He later married Brenda Daily on September 24, 2011. They survive.
Also surviving are two children, Jonathan Shaffer and Tonya (Chris) Snyder; four grandchildren, Bryanna, Jordan, Tyler, and Lia; four great-grandchildren; four brothers, Bob Bryant, Don Archdale, Terry Archdale, and Mike Shaffer; and one sister, Cheryl Mathews.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
David worked for Keystone Steel & Wire and retired in 2005. He was a life time member of the Canton V.F.W. Post 1984 and the Forty-Eight Club. David served in the United States Army in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart and two bronze medals.
Graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Avon Cemetery in Avon, IL. Rev. Kevin Van Tine will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded with Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL.
