Robert (Bob) E Wolschlag, 87 of Arizona, formerly of Elmwood, passed away at 2:00 a.m., Friday, December 25, 2020 at The Palms in Sun City, AZ. He was born on March 30, 1933 in Peoria, IL to Chester and Mary (Parr) Wolschlag. Robert grew up in Knox County and graduated from Yates City High School. He married Charlene Atwater on June 22, 1957, at the Presbyterian Church in Yates City. They were married for 63 years and she survives him.
He is also survived by his children, Donald (Gayle) Wolschlag of Sun City West, AZ and Ronald (Jane) Wolschlag of Normal, IL; six grandchildren, Denise Wolschlag of Normal, IL, Scott Wolschlag of Bloomington, IL, Kimberly (Matt) Simonsen of Surprise, AZ, Mark Wolschlag of Chandler, AZ, Brett Wolschlag of Champaign, IL, and Stephen Wolschlag (Yasari Molina) of Glendale, AZ; sister, Florence McAlister of Elmwood, IL and sister-in-law, Betty (Burdess) Wolschlag of Bartonville along with several nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Howard and Earl Wolschlag, and two sisters, Shirley Reaktenwalt and Marilyn Bomhold.
Robert served in the Air Force and Korean War retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1963 and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #638. He retired from Caterpillar after 32 years, had a self-employed trenching business until 1995 and was a member of the Illinois Land Improvement Contractors Associations (ILICA). Robert was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Elmwood. As an avid traveler, Robert enjoyed taking pictures while traveling with his wife to many places. A few places they traveled to were China, Switzerland, Alaska, Scotland, Germany, Austria, Greece, Greenland, Thailand, Kenya, Morocco and Canada. He was also a member of camera clubs in both Peoria, IL and Sun City, AZ where he had a great number of special friends. He was a fan of the St Louis Cardinals (as an avid Cub fan, his wife wanted to leave this out, but his sons wouldn't allow it) and the Green Bay Packers. Bob was very proud of his children and grandchildren and enjoyed their activities.
A private service will be held with immediate family only. Burial will follow at Elmwood Township Cemetery. Due to COVID concerns, a celebration of life will be held on a later date at the First Presbyterian Church in Elmwood. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Elmwood or memorial of the donor's choice.
