Carol Joan Shaw, 86, died at 4 a.m. on Thursday, Dec 3, 2020, at Renaissance Care Center in Canton.
She was born on Feb. 19, 1934 in Canton to Edward and Wilmetta (Hudson) Nelson. She married Donald E. Shaw on Aug. 29, 1953 at Shields Chapel United Methodist Church in rural Canton. He preceded her in death on Oct. 20, 2008.
Also preceding her in death were her two sons, Ron Shaw and Rick Shaw; and son-in-law Michael Smith, all of Canton. Two sisters, Betty Sepich and Nydia Duryea, and one brother, Harold Nelson, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Donna Smith of Canton; two daughters-in-law, Cathy Shaw of Dunfermline and Doreen Shaw of Canton. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Nick Shaw, Joel (Kerrie) Shaw, Amanda Waddell, and Derek Shaw; four great-grandchildren, Jace, Jadyn, and Lexi Shaw, and McKaila Waddell; and one great-great granddaughter, Elowyn Plenkers.
She was a member of Shields Chapel United Methodist Church.
Joan graduated from Canton Senior High School. She was a full time homemaker. Her greatest joys in life were spending time with her family and cooking everything “from scratch.” She had a green thumb and looked forward to spring every year so she could fill her porches with beautiful begonias, geraniums, and ferns.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8 at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton. There will be no visitation.
