Lee T. White

Lee T. White, 77, of Canton, passed away at 5:56 AM on Monday, June 29, 2020 at Sunset Manor Nursing Home. He was born on October 13, 1942 in Bushnell, IL to Harry L. and Leona M. (Morris) White.

Surviving are three children, Rodney (Linda) White, Robin (Brett) Walters, and Roger (Dawn) White; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Rosie (Steve) Purchase of Elmwood, IL and Barb (Donnie) Leasman of Fowler, IL; daughter in law, Sheila White.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Russell White; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Voyde and George White; one sister, Daisy Elm Harkness; half-brother, Robert Morris, and half-sister, Mildred Morris.

Joan Marie Bankes

Joan Marie Bankes, 83, of Canton, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Red Oak Estates in Canton.

She was born Sept. 11, 1936, in Liverpool, to Grover and Mary (Rogganbuck) Messer. As an infant, Joan and her parents were involved in an automobile crash in which her parents died and she was thrown from the vehicle and found crying in a field. She then was raised by her uncle and aunt, Zeno and Ida Yelton, who preceded her in death.

She married Ronnie Bankes on April 17, 1954. He survives. Also surviving are her children: Pam (Mike) Rabe of Pekin, Kevin (Denise) Bankes of Canton, Mendy (Frank) Jones of Canton, one brother, Allen (Ardis) Messer of Kankakee, one sister-in-law, Marilyn Madson of Lewistown, eight grandchildren and 19 greatgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Nicole Rabe, brothers Leroy,

Harrison and Calvin; and sisters Ida May and Lepha Pearl.

Joan was a lifelong member of First Christian Church of Canton, where she served for 63 years as a Sunday school and Vacation Bible School teacher. She was a member of the women’s sewing circle at the church for several years and had served as a deacon.

She was a member of Eastern Star. She served for decades as an election judge and volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels. She served as PTA president and Bluebird, Camp Fire and Cub Scout leader for many years. She was not one to say no when asked to help. She enjoyed crocheting and playing the piano.

A public visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 from 5-7 pm at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton.  Covid 19 mandates require social distancing and the wearing of a mask.  A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at 10 am at the funeral home with a burial to follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.

Robert “Bob” A. Runyan

Canton – Robert “Bob” A. Runyan, 74, of Canton, passed away, Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at his home in Canton.

He was born on April 25, 1946, in Canton, to Raymond and Millie (Miller) Runyan. They both preceded him in death along with one brother, Kenny Runyan.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn (Edwards) Runyan, whom he married on November 1, 1980, in Cuba.

Also surviving are three daughters, Tina (The Late Roger) Kaufman of Colfax, Illinois, Tammy (Tim) Peter of New Jersey, and Rachelle (Ali) Sadat of California, one brother, Charlie (Cherie) Runyan, one sister, Jean (Ronnie) Henderson, and five grandchildren.

Bob retired from the Illinois State Police with over 30 years of service

He was an avid Dodgers baseball fan.

Bob was a member of the Scottish Rite Freemasonry 32*, Valley of Peoria, and Masons of Illinois Cuba Lodge #534 for 49 years.  Also a member of the Illinois Police Association, Retired State Police Association of Illinois, and FOP Troopers Lodge #41.

Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, and farming.

Cremation rites will be accorded.

Marlyn C. Ewalt

Canton – Marlyn C. Ewalt, 94, of Canton, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at Red Oak Estates in Canton.

She was born on September 24, 1925, to O.L. “Roy” and Mabel E. (Moul) Nelson. They both preceded her in death.

She married Karl Ewalt on July 4, 1942 in Farmington. He preceded her in death in 2015.

Also preceding her in death are two brothers, Dale Nelson and Burl Nelson.

Surviving are four children, Lana L. (Larry) Henderson of Lees Summit, MO, Karla K. (Danny) Polhemus of Germantown Hills, IL, Victor E. (Chris) Ewalt of Hanna City, IL. and Denise J. Meyers, of Canton, IL, eleven grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.

Marlyn graduated from Farmington Highschool in 1949, she enjoyed fishing, gardening, flowers and spending time with her family.

Cremation rites will be accorded. A burial of her and her ashes will be held at a later date in Trivoli Cemetery in Trivoli.

Memberships: Astoria American Legion for over 70 years. He collected antiques and enjoyed yard work.

Services: a graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at the Astoria Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Astoria American Legion Post #25.
