Canton – Jo Ann Block, 78, of Canton passed away at 9:45 am Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at her residence. She was born on September 30, 1938 in Bloomington to Roy A. and Mary A. (Armstrong) Knuppel. Jo Ann married Leland E. Block on September 30, 1984 in Canton. He survives along with one brother Lee Roy Knuppel of Canton, one sister Mary Sue Woodbury of Southampton, NJ, two nieces; Sandi (Scott) Hill of Runnemede, NJ, and Michele (Francisco Laboy III) Woodbury of Los Cruces, NM, and 5 great-nieces and nephews; Emma, Ethan, Eliza, Gabriela, and Francisco IV. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Jo Ann followed in her Grandmother’s and Mother’s footsteps by earning a Bachelor of Science Degree from Illinois State University. She was a math and science teacher in middle and high school. She went to New Zealand on the International Farm Youth Exchange and was a 4-H leader for 47 years being inducted into the State 4-H Hall of Fame. Jo Ann also was township clerk, a master gardener, homemaker and member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Canton.
Services will be 11 am Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church where visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8 pm. The Rev. Micah Garnett will officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded. Quentin G. Hand
Lewistown- Quentin G. Hand, 97, of Lewistown, passed away at 11:20 PM Wednesday April 26, 2017 at Clayberg Nursing Home in Cuba.
He was born October 2, 1919 at Pipestone, MN; the son of Albert and Anna (Hansen) Hand. He married Rosalie Higgins on January 27, 1942 at Palmyra, MO. She preceded him in death on March 17, 2011. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Orville Hand. Survivors include two sons. William Hand of Excello, MO; Craig (Jeannie) Hand of Lewistown, a daughter in law, Cynthia Helle of Astoria, five grandchildren, Brandon Hand, Eric (Rhonda) Hand, Alex (Nikki) Hand, Aleesha Hand, and Evan Hand, two step grandchildren, Tracy (Dallas) Burhans, and Todd (Miki) Farwell, three nieces, Tana (Terry) Anderson, Dee (Mike) Williams, and Karen (Larry) Shonkwiler, and one nephew, Jim (Mary Lou) Higgins.
Quentin worked as an insurance agent and was co-owner of Midwest Sales Company. He was a WW 2 Army Aircorp veteran with the 12th Air Force Division. He was a recipient of the distinguished flying cross, 5 campaign clusters, an air medal, and the distinguished unit citation. He was a member of the Peoria Masonic Lodge, Mohammed Temple Shrine, Lewistown VFW Post 5001, and Lewistown American Legion Post 1.
A visitation will be held Tuesday from 10-11 AM with a masonic service at 11:00 AM. At Henry-Lange Memorial home in Lewistown. A graveside service will immediately follow the masonic service at Oak Hill Cemetery with military rites conducted by his VFW and American Legion posts. Major Richard "Dick" Keel
Trivoli-Major Richard “Dick” William Keel Sr., 86, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
He was born on October 29, 1930, in Peoria, to Clarence J. and Clara (Williams) Keel. They preceded him in death.
He married Mary Jane Kroell on April 3, 1955 in Forest City, IL. She preceded him in death on April 21, 2014.
Surviving are 5 children, Richard (Jill) Keel Jr. of Pekin, IL, Mary (Jim) Murphy of Van Meter, IA, Susan (Robert) Graham of Hanover, IN, Sarah Keel-Wiebmer of Peoria, IL, Elizabeth (Matt) Clarage of Lemont, IL, grandchildren, Nick (Jamie Turnage) Graham, Matt (Liz) Graham, Catherine Graham, Jillian Murphy, Jay Murphy, Michael Murphy, Jacob Clarage, Benjamin Clarage, great grandchildren, Rowan, Kieran, Oren and Gilia Graham, and one brother Clarence “C.J.” (Pat) Keel of Tampa, FL
Also preceding him in death is one brother, George W. Keel and sister, Frances J. Beasimer.
Dick graduated from Peoria High School in 1948 where he played football, graduated from Brown’s Business College of Peoria, Illinois and later received his bachelors degree from University of Nebraska at Omaha in Economics.
He served in the U.S. Air Force as a navigator and retired with 20 years of service in 1971. He served in both Korea and Vietnam. He was later a self-employed farmer in the Trivoli area. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #192 in Farmington, a 32nd degree member of the Valley of Peoria Shriners and the VFW. He volunteered at the Spoon River Drive with the Masonic Lodge and recently received the “Defender of Freedom” award for Military service from the Farmington Masonic Lodge. He was a Chicago Bears and Cubs fan.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 5, 2017, from 5-7 pm with a Masonic service from 7–7:30 pm, at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with a funeral service on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at the Penn Ridge Lutheran Church in rural Trivoli, at 10 am.
Burial with military honors will be at the Penn Ridge Cemetery immediately following the service.

Dennis W. Hurst
Canton- Dennis W. Hurst, 66, of Canton, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017 at his home from a long illness.
He was born on August 18, 1950, in Canton to Raymond and Audrey (Crick) Hurst.
He is survived by nieces Rhonda (John) Burright of Rockford, Illinois, and Monica Hurst of Peoria, a nephew Bryan (Heather) Hurst of Peoria, sister in-law Karen Hurst of Peoria, a special friend Mary AnnMurphy of Peoria, great nieces Madison Hurst and Jessica Burright, and a great nephew Joshua Burright all of Rockford Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Ronald Hurst.
Dennis was an elementary teacher, he taught in Illinois, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Florida. He attended Shields Chapel United Methodist Church he was a member of the Spoon River Drive Association, and a Head Start Volunteer.
A Funeral will be held at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton on Tuesday May 2, 2017 at 2 pm, burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.

William E. Wilson
He was born August 6, 1922 at Enion the son of Ernest and Mary (Derry) Wilson. He married Yvonne Hoover on May 19, 1956 at Peoria. She died August 19, 1991. Surviving is one son, Mark Wilson of East Peoria and one sister, Wanda Ford of Canton. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Julie Wilson, seven brothers, and three sisters.
William graduated from Bradley University. He was a former editor at the Washington Reporter. He had also worked for Traders Reality. He was a WWII Navy Veteran. William formerly attended the Washington Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and the Lewistown Lodge AF&AM 104.
Cremation will be accorded. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown with Reverend Larry Wright officiating. Military services will be conducted by the Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and the Lewistown American Legion Bishop Post 1. Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown is assisting the family with arrangements. Mary A. Roberts
She was born September 26, 1925 at Sepo, IL; the daughter of Fred and Margaret (Stufflebeam) Hurley. She married James E. Roberts on June 21, 1946 at Pekin. He preceded her in death on March 11, 1988. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sons, James H. Roberts, and John C. Roberts, one great grandson, Morgan Ailes, and two brothers, John Hurley, and Dennis Hurley. Surviving are three chidren, Mary Jo (Marshall) Black of Canton, Joseph R. (Pamela) Roberts of Pekin, and Jodi A. (David) Pascal of Winnebago, IL; one daughter in law, Barbara A. Roberts of St. David, six grandchildren, Tina, Tellia, Juli, Amy, Andy, and Keri, one step grandchild, Corey, nine great grandchildren, Jorey, James, Meagan, Kirsten, Nick, Makynna, James, Leah, and Emma, and one great great grandchild, Myla.
Mary was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Havana, and was devoted to her church and faith. She was a member of the Havana VFW Auxiliary. She cherished her family and friends and always wanted to help those less fortunate. She enjoyed traveling around Fulton and Mason counties listening to country music
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Havana. Burial will be in Maryville Cemetery at Bryant. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5-7 PM with a rosary service at 4:30 PM at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown. William R. Awl
Also preceding him in death were his parents and one son, Jonathan Awl.
Surviving is one adopted son, Julio Garcia-Laffitte, daughter-in-law Lisa Diskin, four adopted grandchildren, and three adopted great-grandchildren, all of Fredericksburg, VA.
William retired from working at Caterpillar. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Canton. For the past five years William was enjoying a fantastic and busy life with his adopted family and his dog Buddy, in Virginia.
Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, where a visitation will be held from 10-11 AM. Burial will follow the services at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton, IL, where Military Honors will be conducted. Cremation rites have been accorded.
