Marshall Shumaker

Marshall Harry Shumaker, age 96, formerly of Canton, IL, went to be with his Lord on 2/19/25 at Sienna Crest Assisted Living facility, Oregan, WI.

Marshall was born in Blyton, IL on 1/28/29 to parents Harry and Edwina (Cashmeyer) Shumaker. He was the eldest of 4 boys. During his high school years, he acted as the manager of the basketball team, when he enjoyed driving the cheerleaders to the games. It was during this time he developed a love for cars.

Marshall married Marie Williamson in Canton IL, on 10/7/1950. They spent 66 years together. He worked at the International Harvester company in Canton, prior to being drafted.

Marshall was inducted into the US army on 2/20/51. He served in Korea, achieving the rank of sergeant while working as a mechanic. He was discharged on 11/19/52.

Upon return to the states from the service, Marshall and Marie resided in Canton. They had started attending Canton First Church of the Nazarene the week after they married.

Upon his discharge from the army Marshall began his 39-year career with Caterpillar Tractor Co., East Peoria, IL on 12/5/1952. During his employ he received special training for machine repair/ tool making. He covered the factory territory on bicycle.

After Marshall retired on 4/1/92 he and Marie enjoyed travelling the country. Some of their favorite spots were the Gulf Shores and the Southwest.

Marshall was active at Canton First Church of the Nazarene for almost 74 years. He drove the Sunday school bus, acted as Sunday School secretary, and served on the board. He continued to attend his home church online after moving to Wisconsin in May of 2022, to be closer to family. Marshall maintained his American Legion membership even after leaving Canton.

Marshall is preceded in death by his wife Marie, his parents Harry and Edwina Shumaker, beloved younger brothers Lester, Lee and Raymond (who died in childhood).

Marshall leaves behind a loving family.

He never turned away a request to help someone.

Even after his children left home, he and Marie opened their home to the youth of the church for recreation and refreshments.

The family would like to give special thanks to those who have been blessings to Marshall over the years.
