Melvin E. Ford

Canton- Melvin E. Ford, 91, of Canton passed away at 9:10 AM Sunday February 13, 2022 at the Loft Rehabilitation & Nursing of Canton where he was a resident.


He was born August 15, 1930 at Canton the son of Joseph and Bertha Ford. He married Wanda Lee Wilson on October 29, 1966 at Lewistown. She preceded him in death on December 17, 2020. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister. Surviving are six children, Chris Weihmeir of Springfield, Jeff (Renee) Weihmeir of Chandler, AZ; Greg (Kelli) Ford of Canton, and Mary Elizabeth (Lon) Fillingham of Jacksonville, Debbi Ford of Canton, and Eddie Ford of Canton, and sixteen grandchildren.

Melvin was a retired coal miner. He had worked at Buckheart and Freeman United mines where he was a pit foreman. He was a US Navy Veteran serving during the Korean War on the USS Missouri. He enjoyed working on cars and was proud of his 1965 Mustang, and his 1978 El Camino.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Reverend Larry Wright officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Lewistown with military services conducted by the Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and Lewistown American Legion Bishop Post 1. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the memorial home. Memorial contributions may be made to Lewistown VFW Post 5001.
