Harriett Louise Lockard

Harriett Louise Lockard, 82, of Canton, passed away at 4:10 PM on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 in Canton, IL. She was born on July 2, 1939 in Astoria, IL to Galen and Dorothy (Derry) Brillhart. She first married Wayne “Sonny” Thompson. She later married William “Bill” Lockard on February 23, 1963 in Astoria, IL. They both preceded her in death.


Harriett is also preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Helen Johnson and Hollie Serpe.

She is survived by four children, Tammy Lowdon of Vacaville, CA, Timothy (Jennie) Lockard of Lincoln, IL, Tessa Freeman, Dan Freeman (son-in-law) and Teresa (Dan) Sprecher both of Canton, IL; nine grandchildren, Nathan (Shannon) Thompson, Ashley Lowdon, Nick Lowdon, Brendan (Liz) Birch, Justin (Haley) Freeman, Jacob (Skyler) Freeman, Drew Freeman, Zachary Sprecher, and Olivia Sprecher; nine great-grandchildren; one brother Randall (Jan) Brillhart; and her beloved dog Duncan.

Harriett was an active member of the Evangelical Free Church of Canton. She was a dedicated mother, first and foremost; she treasured her children and grandchildren. Harriett especially loved her role as "Meme". She was passionate about antiquing and refinishing those treasures throughout her adult life. Anyone who saw Harriett's backyard could attest to her love for gardening and planting flowers. She captured the beauty God brought to the world in her garden.

A memorial service will be held in Canton, IL at Evangelical Free Church on Saturday March 5th at 2:00pm. Family will begin receiving friends at 1:00pm. The Memorial Service will be in honor of both, Harriett and Bill Lockard, as the family was not able to have services for Bill at the time of his death. Rev. Matt Spangler will officiate. Burial will follow service at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton, IL. Memorials may be made to Evangelical Free Church in Canton, IL.
