Philomena Lester


Lewistown-  Philomena Lester, 93, of Lewistown passed away at 9:23 PM Tuesday July 24, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born August 21, 1924 at Canton the daughter of Deloss and Flossie (Shipp) Leonard. She married Robert Lester on April 21, 1941. He died January 28, 1981. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son Larry Lester, one sister, Alzata Gordon, a son-in-law, Bill Toomer, a grandson Jeff Toomer, a great grandson, Gavin Gutierrez and a great granddaughter, Adysson Lester. Surviving are seven children, Ellie Toomer of Lewistown, Kay McDaniel of St. Pete Beach, FL; Linda ( Bill Campbell ) Smith of Lonoke, AR; Bobbie Parsons of Peoria, Becki (Bill Wicevich) Lester of Cave Creek, AZ; Dee (Steve) Honn of Arthur, and Gary (Christy) Lester of Canton, one sister, Ethel (Virgil) Brewer of Macomb, 22 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.

Philomena worked in the grocery industry as a butcher and then later as a manager of the meat department. She was a former restaurant owner and waitress. She also cared for the elderly, cleaned houses and worked in child care. Philomena was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lewistown and the Lewistown VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed bowling, ball room dancing and attending the Lawrence Welk show. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Saturday at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Pastor Penny Frame officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Lewistown. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Lewistown.
