Shirley Harman


Trivoli-Shirley E. Harman, 85, passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Farmington Country Manor.

She was born on August 1, 1932, in Trivoli, to Frank and Lida (Bitner) Clauson.  They preceded her in death.

She married Gilbert Harman on March 16, 1956, in Farmington.  He preceded her in death on April 1, 2016.

Also preceding her in death are four brothers, Cecil, Elden, Dean, Don and one sister, Melva Dorothy Geltmaker.

Surviving is one sister, Velda Faye Plumer of Maquon and many nieces and nephews.

She was a member of Farmington Methodist Church and Rebekah Lodge #155.  She taught nine years in the rural schools in Peoria County, Oaks Grove #149 and Birds Corners.  For 27 years she taught at Bartonville Grade School.  After retirement she became active in her church.  She served as president of the United Methodist Women for 15 years as well as other areas of the church.  She was also on the Trivoli Township Cemetery Board from its beginning until her health forced her retirement.  She had always been Gilberts helper on the farm from driving a tractor or truck, feeding cattle and book keeping.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 11 am at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with a visitation one hour prior at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Farmington.
