Robert E. Rote


LEWISTOWN- Robert E. Rote, 87, of Lewistown, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 5:40 PM at his residence. He was born on May 23, 1928 in Buffalo, New York, a son of Elmer W. and Helen R. Butler Rote. Robert married Lavella Rapert on December 5, 1947 in Peoria, IL. She preceded him in death on November 1, 1989. He is also preceded in death by his parents, and one step-son, Glenn “Buddy” Rote.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews, great and great –great nieces and nephews, one brother, David Rote of Big Bear Lake, CA; one sister-in-law, whom he raised, Kay Owens Wirebaugh of Saint David, and two brother-in-laws, Harold Wirebaugh of Little America, Alvin “Catfish” Bartlett of Saint David; special friend, Debbie Heffren of Lewistown.
Robert retired from International Harvester in Canton, was a member of Assembly of God Church in Canton, and a member of the American Legion Post #0533 in Cuba. Robert served his country as a Paratrooper with the 141st Airborne Division in Fort Benning, GA from 1951-1956.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 6-8 PM on Thursday May 12, 2016 at the Lewistown V.F.W. Friends are invited to bring a covered dish to share. Cremation rites have been established through Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton. Burial of ashes will be held at a later date in White Chapel Memory Gardens.
