Canton - Margaret E. Herink, 91, of
Canton passed away at 12:17 PM Sunday, February 22, 2015 at Heartland
Healthcare Center, Canton.
She
was born in Piper City, IL on March 28, 1923 to Adam and Bessie (Eaker)
Shell. She married Homer “Bill” R. Herink on Christmas Eve, 1948 in
Chatsworth, IL. He preceded her in death on March 9, 2010.
Surviving
are three children, Constance (Hal) Maples of St. Peters, MO, Ronald
(Judy) Herink of Borden, IN, and Frederick (Karol) Herink of Canton; six
grandchildren, Leia Knapp, Adam Herink, A.J. Herink, Tim Herink, Amy
Herink, and Joe Herink; one great-granddaughter, Keira Knapp; and one
sister, Helen Babcock of Washington, IL.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers and four sisters.
She
received her Bachelor’s Degree in teaching from ISU. She was a teacher
at Central Grade School, Canton and taught for twelve years at Lacon
and Varna.
She
was a member of the Canton First Presbyterian Church and past member of
the Eastern Star in Canton. She was also a member of the Graham
Hospital Service League and served on the Spoon River Library District
Board.
She enjoyed sewing and gardening.
Services
will be held at 10:00 AM Friday February 27, 2015 at Murphy-Sedgwick
Memorial Home, Canton, where visitation will be held Thursday evening
from 5:00-7:00 PM. Rev. Tim Bauler will officiate. Burial will follow
in White Chapel Memory Gardens, Canton.
Memorials may be made to Canton First Presbyterian Church or Graham Hospital Service League.
