Mary Rock

Mary E Rock, 97 of Canton, Il passed peacefully in her sleep at Sunset Manor April 1, 2023 in Canton. She leaves behind many loving family and friends. She was born to Joshua & Edna (Pilcher) Tompkins October 16, 1925 in Fiatt, Il.

Mary married James E. Rock December 12, 1943 in Cuba, Il. He preceded her in death August 21, 2011. She has 3 surviving children, James A. (Linda) Rock of Canton, Connie E. (Jack) Schleich of Fairview, Helen M. (the late Dr. Doyle Barrett) of Cedar Hills, Utah. One brother Ransom Tompkins of Fairview, 6 grandsons, one granddaughter and thirteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, 2 sisters and twins that died shortly after birth and one grandson.

In her words “I loved my family”. Her words of wisdom, “If you can’t say anything nice about someone, don’t say anything at all”. She blessed her family and friends with her talent of croqueted afghans and doilies.

Cremation rites have been accorded through Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton.

There will be a private immediate family burial of the ashes at Shields Chapel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Shields Chapel Cemetery.
