He was born May 29, 1964 at Mason District Hospital, the son of Edward and Martha (Quallich) Murphy. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are five siblings, Timothy Murphy (Marcy) of Moline, IL; June Behles of Des Plaines, IL; Linda Murphy (John Vinzant) of Gary, IN; Daniel Murphy (Theresa) of Davenport, IA; and Kathleen Arnett (Roger) of Lewistown, IL.
Brian was an Illinois State Scholar and member of Senior Bowl. He was on the football/baseball teams, Spanish Honor Society and earned an academic scholarship to the University of Illinois. He graduated from the U or I with a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Psychology. He started working for Follett Bookstore on the U of I campus and continued with that career. He worked, as a valuable employee, the last 24 years at the bookstore on the Bradley University campus.
Brian was an avid reader and wordsmith. He sought out the most challenging crossword puzzles and completed them in ink. He had an exceptionally sharp mind and quick wit. Even though he was from a large family (or maybe because of that), he enjoyed spending time alone. He also followed The Bears and Illini football. He especially loved being in nature - fishing and mushrooming. As a cornet player, Brian was sought after to play taps at the cemetery. He was noted for his moving rendition at military services.
He will be missed.
The family will be hosting a celebration of life and a luncheon at 12:30 PM Saturday May 13, 2023 at the Lewistown VFW Post. Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewistown VFW. To send online condolences visit henrylange.com.
