She was born on April 3, 1933, in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, to Fred and Maude (MacDonald) Ekstrand. They preceded her in death along with one son Steve Hutton, and one brother, David Ekstrand.
Doris married Morton Hutton on June 21, 1959 they shared 45 years of marriage. He preceded her in death in 2004.
She is survived by one daughter, Sarah “Sally” (Bruce) Hebb, and one grandson, Zachary Hebb.
Doris graduated from Boone High School in 1951. She later attended Cottey College and later graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education from Iowa Wesleyan in 1956. Doris went on to become a school teacher in Galesburg for 2 years and then moved to Canton Ingersoll Middle School where she taught 7th grade language arts, English class for 32 years. She retired in 1991. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Canton, Pi Beta PHI Fraternity, and BZ PEO sisterhood for 70 years.
She enjoyed playing bridge and was in many tournaments. She enjoyed canning and was well known for her dill pickles and spaghetti sauce. She loved her dogs and at one point she had six in her home. Most of all she loved visiting and spending time with her family and friends, nobody was ever not welcome in her home.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life will be held at a later date at Assembly of God Church in Canton.
