Ethel Hamlet

Ethel Hamlet, 85, of Havana passed away at 9:50 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at Havana Healthcare Center in Havana. She was born on February 6, 1938 in Peoria, Illinois to Verden V. and Ruth K. (Kreiling) Bortell. She married James H. Hamlet in 1967 and he preceded her in death in 2018.

Ethel is survived by her children, Gary Gooch of Havana, Brenda (Randy) Young of Tennessee, and Jim (Brandy) Hamlet of Havana; step-children, Steve (Deb) Cagle, Jennie (Erin) Youell, Mary Hamlet, and Roger (Jenny) Hamlet; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and brothers, Eldon Bortell of Forest City and Carlos V. Bortell of Manito. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Virgil Bortell, Sr., and step-son, Jerry Hamlet.
Ethel was a graduate of Forman High School. She worked in Lincoln for the State of Illinois for many years. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and visiting with family.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Maas-Hurley Funeral Home in Manito. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Lynn Cemetery in Gainesboro, Tennessee.
