Lyle Edward Howe, 93, of Havana, Illinois, passed away peacefully at The Elms in Macomb, Illinois on Friday, January 20, 2023.He was born on December 2, 1929 to Lyle Grafton and Irma (Dutton) Howe in rural Bushnell, Illinois, and was the third of five children.
He married Viola Florene Sellars on September 6, 1959 in Macomb, Illinois.
Lyle is survived by his wife of 63 years, Viola Florene Howe of Havana, and children Larry Howe of Havana, Jan (Jack) O'Bryant of Canton, Missouri, Joyce (Randy) Fairow of Easton, Illinois, and Janie (Jason) Jones of Table Grove, Illinois; grandchildren Christopher Boggs, Jill (Kyle) Cookingham, Clint (Johanna) O'Bryant, Jett Jones, Jada Jones, Sydney Marshall and Zachary Marshall and one son-in-law Steve Marshall of Havana. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Leona, three brothers, Otis Gerald, Donald Wayne, Leland, and an infant son Garry Howe and daughter Joan Marshall.
Lyle proudly served his country as a Navy Seabee (Construction Battalion) on Guam and later stateside in southern California from 1947-1954. He retired from NTN Bower in Macomb, Illinois after many years of dedicated service. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Havana, Illinois.
The family would like to express deep gratitude to the staff of The Elms for their compassionate care and support they provided Lyle during the last three years.
A family visitiation will be held from 1-2 Tuesday, January 24, 2023 with graveside services immediately following at Laurel Hill Cemetary with full military rites provided by VFW Post #6408 and American Legion Post #138. Rev. Carol Stufflebeam will officiate. Online condolences can be left for his family at Hurley Funeral Home In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VFW or American Legion Hall in Havana.
