Smithfield- John E. Ashby, 75, of Smithfield, passed away at 2:40 AM on Friday, December 30, 2022 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born on December 24, 1947 in Canton, a son of Vaughn and Margaret (Williams) Ashby. He married Faye Daniel on March 2, 1968 in Smithfield. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Lisa (David Cufaude) Alexander of Manito; Jason (Shelley) Ashby of Pekin; three grandchildren, Kylee Alexander, Aiden and Sophie Ashby; one brother, Lee Brooks of Smithfield, and one sister, Yvonne Armstrong of Pekin.
He worked and retired from Caterpillar, Inc after 30 years of service, retiring in 1996. John loved his farm and the outdoors in general, was a quiet and simple man, who was proud of his children and grandchildren.
Per John’s wishes, there will be no services, cremation rites will be accorded through Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton.
