Canton-Henry L. Long, 83, of Canton, passed away at 6:00 AM on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Sunset Nursing Home in Canton. He was born on January 7, 1939 in Beardstown, a son of William P. and Alma F. (Rice) Long. He married Rose Marie Lear in 1959, she preceded him in death. He later married Nancy Pickle on December 23, 1984 in Canton, she preceded him in death on October 14, 2018.
Also preceding him death is his parents, and three brothers, infant George, Walter, and Elmer.
Surviving are his children, Richard Long of Pekin; William (Sandra) Long of Vermont; Michael (Marjorie) Long of Washington; Melissa Long-Smith of Peoria; several grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; one brother, Steve (Kathy) Long of Beardstown, and two sisters, Bertie Long-Taylor of Beardstown; Fannie Long-Park of Texas.
Henry worked and retired from Caterpillar, Inc. after many years of service. He was a volunteer of the Mapleton Fire Department, and served his country in the United States Air Force.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, where a memorial visitation will be from 1:30 PM until the time of services. Pastor Monroe Bailey will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Fulton County Humane Society.
