She held her first job at the age of 16 at the Glove Factory in Beardstown, IL. She later worked at several businesses in Astoria; The Subway (Broadway) Café and Wilbur’s Coffee Cup, where she loved being a waitress. She later worked as bookkeeper for Alexander Lumber Company and was a cashier at Hamblin’s Gas and Snacks.
Memberships: One of Vi’s accomplishments was when in her 60’s she got her GED with some local friends. She and her sister Irene played the guitar and sang at local churches and PTA meetings in the area. Vi loved people and had a way to make them smile. She loved dogs, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Chicago Bulls. She enjoyed watching them on TV. She was a member of the Astoria Christian Church where she always reminisced and shared the story of Pastor Ray Artrip baptizing her and later Tommy. Vi loved the Lord and shared her faith with her family and friends. She loved walking, gardening, and canning. Most of all she, along with Darlene, loved spending countless hours cooking and baking for her family at the farm house. These were the memories she spoke most often of. Vi enjoyed watching her great-grandchildren Aubri and Mason having their tea parties, swinging on the porch swing, and singing old Sunday school songs. She was so glad when the great-great-grandsons came to visit. They would always put a smile on her face. He fury friend Payton will help Jesus welcome her into heaven. He preceded her in death just 6 weeks earlier.
