He was born on October 20, 1939 in Canton to Kenneth and Clara (Cannon) Burgard.
He married Connie Arnold on May 13, 1962 in Prairie City. She survives.
Also surviving are his daughters, Renee (Ron) Tompkins of Canton, Rhonda (Craig Rios) Myers of Lincoln, grandchildren, Mandy (Justin) Frautschy, Ryan (Jesssica Bohler) Tompkins, Erik (Bree Gibbs) Tompkins, Addison Sigler, great grandchildren, Morgan (Carson Hall) DelMastro, Scarlett Tompkins, Calum Tompkins, one great great-grand daughter, Rowyn Hall, son-in-law, John Sigler and sister-in-law, Sandy Burgard.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Rebecca Sigler and one brother, Mike Burgard.
John served in the U.S. Army reserve for 6 years. He retired from International Harvester in in Canton in 1983 after 30 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, quail hunting and working on his flower garden in his yard. He was an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 from 9:45am-10:45 am at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton. A graveside burial service will follow at 11am at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.
Memorials may be made to Fulton County Humane Society or the First Christian Church in Canton.
