Virginia B. McCausland

Virginia B. McCausland was a remarkable woman who lived a full life of one-hundred years. She died on Wednesday, January 8, at 1:45 a.m., at Apostolic Christian Skylines in Peoria, Illinois, where she was loved and cared for.


She was born in Kerton Township, Illinois, on June 1, 1924, to Lyle and Greeta (Horner) Butler. She had four brothers and one sister. She is survived by her brother, Rodney Butler.


Virginia graduated from Lewistown High School and Peoria Institute of Business. She worked at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.


She married Carl James McCausland on May 22, 1943 at Maxwell Field, Montgomery, Alabama while he was stationed with the Army Air Corps. Later they tended a farm and raised a family together. They had three daughters, Cathy, Mary Ann, and Marty. Her husband and daughters preceded her in death.


Her legacy includes six grandchildren, Janna, Geoff (Amy), Jared, Josh (Keri), Abby (Kyle), Adam; and six great grandchildren, Morgan, Caden, Henry, Casey, Grace, and Holden.


Virginia was a committed member of the Lewistown United Methodist Church where she taught children’s Sunday school for many years. She was a Girl Scouts leader and kept her youthful enthusiasm throughout her life. She loved to travel, camp, and read. She will be greatly missed and remembered for her spunk and laughter.


Services will be held at 11 am Saturday January 18, 2025 at the Lewistown United Methodist Church with Pastor Shane Smith officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Lewistown. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewistown United Methodist Church.
