Norman L. Chandler

Norman L. Chandler, 97, of Peoria, formerly of Canton, passed away at 3:15 p.m., on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at Independence Village in Peoria.

Norman was born August 11, 1927, in Detroit, MI, to Howard and Julia (Brader) Chandler. Norman married Doris Pecher on November 22, 1999, in Canton. She survives.

Norman is also survived by three children, Joan (the late Joseph) Parr of Peoria, IL, Betty (David) Curry of Wyoming, IL, and Michael (Anna) Chandler, of Prescott Hills, AZ; four grandchildren, Nichole, Tyler, Brandy, and Colt; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Norman is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donald Chandler; and sister, Wilma Smith.

Norman was drafted in 1953 in the Army where he was stationed in Germany for two years. He then went to Olivet Nazarene University and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Ministerial Studies. Norman was a minister in the Church of Nazarene, from 1958 to 1980, serving multiple communities.

A funeral service will be held at noon on Friday, January 10, 2024, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Elmwood. A visitation will be held prior to the service the same day from 11:00 a.m. to noon. Burial will immediately follow the service at Elmwood Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to the First Church of Nazarene in Canton, the Canton Fire Department, and the Canton Ambulance Services.
