Vada Kovachevich

Vada Lucille Kovachevich, 102 yrs old, passed away on December 17, 2024.

Born March 15, 1922 to Luther Dale and Myrta Green. She married Victor A. Kovachevich Sr. on November 2, 1941 and they were married for 65 years. He passed away on December 27, 2006. She is also predeceased by her 6 year old daughter Sandra Lea, on September 25, 1949 and brothers; George Kenneth Green of Norfolk, Virginia; Gordon Green of Texas; Bernard Green and Dale Green of Williamsfield, Il.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Wilson (Arturo Hernandez) of Canton, IL and her children: Stacy (Corey) Wise, of Bryant, Melissa (Shaun) Miller, Dash (Jennifer) Wilson and Drake Wilson all of Canton. Her son, Deacon Victor A (Dixie) Kovachevich Jr of San Tan Valley, Arizona and their children Victor A Kovachevich III (Bonnie Kirincic) of Chicago, IL and Echo (Steve) Tinglestad of Mesa, Arizona, 14 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandson. She is also survived by her sister, Sheryl Hinrichsen of Peoria, IL, and many nieces and nephews.

Vada graduated from Elmwood High School but lived in Canton most of her married life. She was a homemaker until her children were in High School and then worked at Mid Century Telephone, Knepp’s Clothing Store and retired from J C Penney’s. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, sang in the Choir and member and Past President of the Altar and Rosary Society. She sang and performed with the Sweet Adelines and Belles of Harmony throughout the state of Illinois for many years. She was an accomplished seamstress making clothes and dance costumes for many along with for herself and family. Many homemade matching square dance outfits were made and worn by her and her husband. They were well known for their square and round dancing in Illinois and when they wintered in Florida and Arizona. In her later years she hand stitched quilts for each of her children and six grandchildren with several more displayed on her beds at home. She also enjoyed popping corn on Fridays at MidAmerica National Bank.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St Mary’s Church in Canton on January 2nd at 11 o’clock. Graveside services immediately following. A luncheon will be served at St Mary’s Parish.
