Morris K. Cook

Lewistown- Morris K. Cook, 97, of Lewistown passed away peacefully at 8:07 PM Friday October 7, 2022 with his wife of 72 years by his side at Clayberg Nursing Home in Cuba where they have resided the past year.


He was born May 31, 1925 at Lewistown the son of Kyle J. and Madeline (Parkinson) Cook. He married Mary Ellen Russell April 21, 1950 at Las Cruces, NM. She survives along with two children, Janet (Rick) Hoffman of Lewistown, and Daniel (Cathy) Cook of Troy, MO; six grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister.


Morris was a WWII Navy veteran serving on the battleship USS California. One of his fond memories was seeing the Peace Treaty signed during the war. Morris graduated from Bradley University with a degree in engineering. He was an engineer for the area coal mining industry. He was a member of the Illinois Street Christian Church in Lewistown. He was also a member of the Lewistown Lodge AF&AM 104, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, and the Consistory Scottish Rite Valley of Peoria, Lewistown VFW Post 5001 where he was past commander, Lewistown American Legion Bishop Post 1, and a former member of the Moose Lodge of Canton. Morris enjoyed bowling, fishing, mushrooming, gardening, and the grandchildren’s activities, but work was his passion.


Cremation will be accorded. There will be a private family graveside service at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown.
