During his lifetime Richard graduated from Western Illinois University with a degree in Agriculture and was a proud member of the Fraternity Delta Sigma Phi. He began his working career at the Peoria Agriculture center and later became employed at the International Harvester plant in Canton Il for almost 30 years until its close and his retirement in 1987. He was an active member of the UAW during his time at International Harvester. During his children’s younger years, he was actively involved (along with his wife Joan) in the school’s PTA as well as a 4H leader for the children in the community. Following his retirement Richard could be frequently seen at his son’s jewelry store (Fullers jewelry) on the Canton Square where he truly loved to socialize with all he met and just as frequently seen at all of his grandchildren’s extra-curricular activities from sporting events, band events to 4-H and Boy Scouts, Richard was the “Proud Grandpa” that everyone knew and loved to visit with.

An avid hunter, wild game trapper and fisherman Richard was most notable for his mushroom hunting skills in both the winter and the fall. During the summer months he enjoyed participating in many long distance and marathon running events (his favorite past time event) and frequently earned first place victories for his age group.

Perhaps his most notable attribute was his desire to sing and entertain all he knew. Weather it was in the Jewelry store, Physicians office, on the porch joining in with his grandchildren or a visit at a local Canton establishment, Richard would always draw a crowd and a loud round of applause.

He was truly loved and will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
