Dora J. Hisey

Dora J. Hisey, age 84, of Cuba, passed to eternal rest with Jesus at 455 am, May 8, 2021 at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa AZ.

She was born on April 30, 1937 in Canton, IL  to Roy and Minerva (Dick) Slater. She married Melvin Hisey on June 8, 1957 in Chatfield, MN.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Mel, 7 children- Brenda (Dennis) Derry of Cuba, Melvin (Juli) Hisey of Tuckasegee, NC, Bill (Wendy) Hisey of Ellisville, Darlene Haina of Colorado Springs, CO, Cheryl (John Hardy) Lockard, of Cuba, Mary (Mark) Wepprecht of Scottsdale, AZ, Tim (Peggy) Hisey of Riverview, FL, 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and siblings John Slater of Bushnell, Betty Ackerson of Bushnell, Dixie (George) Bruketta of Norris and Paula Julien of Epping, NH, sister in law Sandra Slater of Ipava, brother in law James Cantrall of Ellisville and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Flatt, her brother Roy Slater and her sister Virginia Cantrall.  

She graduated from Cuba High School in 1955 and attended Browns Business College in Peoria, IL. She worked as a secretary/ bookkeeper at several Canton businesses. After moving to Arizona, she worked for Mesa School District as a cook. She has been a devoted caregiver for her beloved husband Mel for the past 30 years. She greatly loved her family, the Chicago Cubs and cooking and baking. She entered many competitions and contests at the Fulton County, Heart of Illinois and Illinois State Fairs.

She was a lifelong member of the Canton Seventh Day Adventist Church and faithfully attended the Apache Junction SDA Church.

Memorial services at Apache Junction Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1650 S Ironwood Drive, Apache Junction, AZ on Thursday 5/13/21 at 6pm. 

Memorial services and burial in Illinois will be set at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded.

Memorials may be made to Retreat and Refresh Stroke Camp, Peoria, IL or the local food pantry of donor’s choice.
