Mary Jean Waddell-Nichols


Mary Jean Waddell-Nichols, 84, of Arenzville, IL, formerly of Canton, IL, passed away at 11:15 AM on Friday, August 14, 2020 at her residence. She was born on April 2, 1936 in Banner, IL to William Warren and Elsie M. (Williams) Lowder. She first married James “Jimmy” F. Waddell in 1957, he preceded her in death. She later married James P. Nichols Sr. on July 10, 2003, he preceded her in death on May 23, 2015.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; one daughter, Donna Jean (Pollitt) Vance; five brothers, William Wayne Lowder, Willard Waide Lowder, Francis LaVerne Lowder, Robert LeRoy Lowder, and Lonnie Ray Lowder; five sisters, Lillian J. Lowder, Lois D. Lowder, Betty M. Beasley, Bernita Bell Lowder and Hazel Marie Lowder; and a stillborn.

Surviving are three children, James “Jimmy” F. (Becky) Waddell Jr. of Canton, IL; Debora (the late Rob) Bown of Arenzville, IL, and Deanna (Chris) Williams of Monterey, IL; nine grandchildren, P. Daniel (Linda) Ashwood, Jesse Ashwood, Shanna (Adam) Hukill, Derek Waddell, Jeffrey Waddell, Eric Games, Jeremy Waddell, Kyle Williams, and Tiffany Lippert; and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Mary worked as a CNA at various nursing homes throughout Fulton County. She was first a member of the First Church of Nazarene in Canton, IL and later a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Canton, IL. Mary loved crafting, sewing, crocheting, knitting, watching her soap operas, and talking on the phone.

Graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton, IL. Rev. K. Bruce Rushing will officiate. A visitation will be held from 4-6 PM on Friday, August 21, 2020 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL.
