Dorothy M. Schleich


Fairview –Dorothy Maxine Schleich, 101, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Graham Hospital in Canton.

She was born on June 9, 1918 the daughter of Julius and Etta (Kuehn) Mahr to a farming family in Illinois.  She married Charles Warren “Warnie” Schleich on June 18, 1953 at the home of Rev. Joshua Hogenboom in Holland Michigan.  He preceded her in death along with her parents, one son Warren “Dick” Schleich and three brothers, Merrill, Ivan and Don Mahr.

She was an active member of the Fairview Reformed Church for 80 years and taught Sunday school for many years.  She participated in writing articles and working with the Fairview Graphic during WWII.  It was a newspaper for Fairview and the local area.  Papers were mailed to soldiers.  Dorothy spent her early years working at Spoon River Hatcheries in Fairview owned by her father.  After marriage she worked with her husband on the farm milking cows and doing chores.  Later in life Dorothy and Warnie spent winters in Florida and enjoyed traveling and flower gardening.

Services will be 10 am Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the Fairview Reformed Church with Rev. Jeff Lampen, Rev. Chelsea Lampen and Rev. Kevin Kleinheksel officiating.  There will be no visitation prior to the funeral service.  Family will receive friends for a meal and fellowship following the burial at the Fairview Cemetery alongside of her husband.

Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton has been entrusted with services.

In Lieu of flower memorials may be made to the Fairview Reformed Church.
