Mildred J. Bollinger


Mildred J. Bollinger, 92, of Maquon, IL, formerly of Astoria, Peoria and Canton, IL, passed away at 4:50 am on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Sunset Manor in Canton, IL. She was born on March 26, 1926 in Astoria, the daughter of Ghlea and Gladys (Peek) Bollinger.

Survivors include her 5 nieces, Donita (and Gene) Halsey of Maquon, Tana Jo Plack of Willard, MO, Stephanie Beasley of Willard, MO, Barb Breahaus of Peoria, and Deb (and Bryan) Collett of Makinaw, IL, two nephews, Gary (and Pam) Bollinger of Texas and Kelly (and Susan) Long of Farmington, IL, sister, Lenora Poppenhager of Willard, MO and hundreds of great-nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her 2 brothers, Boyce and Robert Bollinger and her sister, Carolyn Long.

Mildred was a teacher for over 40 years in the Peoria school district.

She was a member of the 1st Christian Church in Canton, IL. She was a world traveler, visiting places like Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Ecuador. Mildred loved the outdoors, fishing, hiking and exploring new places. She was always a teacher, teaching her family about birds and flowers. She loved reading, bird watching, and doing puzzles. Mildred took dance lessons into her eighties. She enjoyed her nieces and nephews and their children.

Services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Brad Burkhead will be officiating. A visitation will held 1 hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery in Astoria.
Memorials may be made to March of Dimes or St. Jude Midwest Affiliate.
