Lois L. Stanko


Canton – Lois L. Stanko, 95, of Canton, passed away at 12:50 PM on Monday, January 21, 2019 at Graham Hospital. She was born on December 15, 1923 in Canton, IL to Glenn and Josephine (Eshelman) DeFord. She married Oliver W. Stanko on July 12, 1942 in Canton, he survives. Oliver and Lois celebrated their 76th anniversary in July of 2018.

Also surviving are four children, Joyce Stanko of Canton, Glenn (Jo Anne) Stanko of Champaign, Gene (Theresa) Stanko of Canton, and John (Pat) Stanko of Canton; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one sister, Joann Rusboldt of Michigan City, IN.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Doris Young.

Lois graduated from Canton High School in 1941. Lois became a member of First Baptist Church of Canton in October 1948, where she served on the Christian Education Board and Board of Deacons, was Secretary-Treasurer of the Golden Rule Class for 30 years, and was a member of the Gleaners Circle. Starting in 1961, she served as Den Mother for Cub Scouts for 5 years, was a member of John Dean PTA for many years, and was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Lois was dedicated to her family, and was a committed lifelong volunteer who lovingly helped many people.

Services will be held at 12 PM noon on Monday, January 28, 2019, at the First Baptist Church in Canton, where a visitation will be held from 11 AM-12 PM noon. Rev. Monroe Bailey will officiate. Burial will follow the services at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton. Memorials can be made to Meals on Wheels in Canton or First Baptist Church of Canton Capital Campaign.
