Lorraine Hinds


Lewistown- Lorraine Hinds, 86, of Lewistown, IL passed away on Friday morning April 28, 2017 at Unity Point Methodist Hospital in Peoria, IL.
She was born on October 1, 1930 in Canton, IL the daughter of Myles and Mary (Billings) Brooks. She married John J. Hinds on October 14, 1950 in Lewistown, IL at the Illinois Street Christian Church. He preceded her in death on October 26, 1998.
Lorraine will be missed dearly by her children; Michael C. (Pam) Hinds of St. David, IL, Cynthia A. (Brad Poff) Levingston of Lewistown, IL, Kevin J. (Michelle) Hinds of Silverdale, WA, grandchildren; Becky (Adam) Stevens, Justin Levingston, Ryan Hinds, Owen Hinds, Tyler Hinds, Rhianna (Jason) Kees, Randy Mendes, great- grandchildren; Cy Carrithers, Abby Stevens, Noah Stevens, Daniel Kees, Olivia Kees and sister-in-law, Shirley Paul.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and son-in-law, John R. Levingston.
Lorraine graduated from Lewistown High School in 1948. She graduated Graham Hospital School of Nursing in Canton as a Registered Nurse and interned at Peoria State Hospital in Bartonville, IL then for back to Graham Hospital in 1952. After 25 years of service she retired and began working for Prairieview Nursing Home, formerly Clarytona Manor, in Lewistown where she retired in 1995. Also, she volunteered as the nurse for the Lewistown Fire Department, Red Cross and Civil Defense for many years. Lorraine was always extremely proud of being a nurse and helping out the people in the community. She was the first woman in the state of Illinois to hold a fire fighter’s association card Lorraine was a member of the Illinois Street Christian Church, 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Ipava, IL, lifetime member of the Lewistown VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and NASCAR fan, especially Dale Earnhardt and Dale Jr. She loved listening to the scanner and watching John Wayne movies.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Henry-Lange Memorial Home, 203 North Illinois St. Lewistown, IL 61542. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 11 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Brandt Reed officiating. She will be laid to rest at Oakhill Cemetery in Lewistown.
