Joyce A. Kingsley


Canton – Joyce A. Kingsley, 78, of Canton, passed away peacefully at 1:21 AM on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Graham Hospital in Canton. She was born on March 7, 1939 in Kirksville, MO to Daniel and Lavern (Lindsey) Patterson. She married Don Kingsley on September 28, 1957 at Glasford Baptist Church. He survives.
Joyce was a pillar of strength for her family, and her passion for them knew no bounds. She celebrated their successes and comforted their failures to her last days. She was thoughtful, kind, patient, and gave advice without passing judgment to everyone she encountered. She never had an unkind word for anyone.
A proud mother, a grandmother, and great-grandmother Joyce, was the embodiment of the word mom.  She loved her family deeply, fiercely, and unconditionally.  Her family will miss her limitless laughter, her positivity, and her shoulder to lean on along with her amazing holiday noodles.
Joyce participated in theater when she was young.  She owned a flower shop in Glassford for a few years, liked to sew, and read the bible.  She enjoyed dinner dates with Don and travelling.
Joyce was a member of Evangelical Free Church in Canton, YMCA, White Cross group at Evangelical Free Church. She taught Sunday school at the 1st Baptist Church and Evangelical Free Church and helped tutor children through the churches. Joyce enjoyed working with small children and supporting those in need.
Joyce is survived by three children, Dawn (Roger) Riley of Pekin, IL, Troy (Lisa) Kingsley of Denver, CO, and Angie (Joseph) Menefee of Bartonville, IL; six grandchildren Gregory Kingsley (Cristina), Brandon Vogel (Corey), Ryan Vogel, Lindsey Smith, Sgt. Zachary Menefee (Haileigh), Alex Menefee; five great-grandchildren, Averi, Paislei, Kyler, Katie, & Cash; two brothers, Larry (Karen) Patterson of Mackinaw, IL and Danny (Dorothy) Patterson of Forest Lake, MN; and one sister, Linda (Bobby) Gaines of Shelbyville, MO.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Greg Kingsley.
Services will be held at 12 PM noon on Monday, May 22, 2017 at Evangelical Free Church in Canton, where a visitation will be held at the church from 10 AM to 12 PM. Rev. Bill Walder will officiate the service with Rev. Brandon Theobald assisting. Burial will follow the services at Lancaster Cemetery in Glasford, IL. Memorials can be made to Evangelical Free Church.
