Everett Wayne "Rawhide" Madson


Everett Wayne "Rawhide" Madson, age 86 of Ipava, IL, passed away at 7:39 am Monday, May 15, 2017 at his home in Ipava. He was born on January 4, 1931 in Jerseyville, IL, the son of Nestor Everett and Violet Rose (Smith) Madson. He married F. Marilyn Bankes on July 3, 1953 in Havana, IL. She survives.

He is also survived by two sons, Robert (and Joyce) Madson of Lewistown, IL and Nestor (and Jean) Madson of Canton, IL, two daughters, Nancy (and George) Buswell of Ipava, IL and Susan (and William) Gehring of Topeka, IL, 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, and his brother James (and Twila) Madson of Mackinaw, IL.

Everett was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Patricia Combs Stahl.

He worked for the Operating Engineers Local 649 as a heavy equipment operator and crane operator. He was the Foreman for the Metropolitan Sanitary District of Greater Chicago.

Everett was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 649 for 65 years. He also was a member of the Berean Christian Church in Ipava.

He loved collecting antique construction toys and going to toy shows. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and playing with his grandkids. He enjoyed music, especially bluegrass and gospel and loved to listen to his children play.

Everett had a love for life, gardening, and feeding the squirrels and birds in his backyard.

Services will be held at 10 am on Friday, May 19th at the Berean Christian Church in Ipava. Pastor Doug Krukewitt will officiate. Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 18th from 6-8 pm at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL.. Memorials may be given to the Engineers Scholarship Fund, Inc. or the Metcalf School DHH Program, Normal, IL. Interment will be in the Laurel Hills Cemetery, Havana, IL.
