Robert Allen Pilger Sr.

Robert Allen Pilger Sr. 76, of Browning, IL, passed away at 4 am on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at St John's Hospital Springfield, IL. He was born to Russel and Frances (Malott) Pilger on December 8, 1948. Bob married Phyllis Ann Robertson on October 4, 1975, in Astoria. Bob is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Phyllis Pilger.


He is also survived by his children; Karen (and Steve) Davis of Astoria, Diana Davidson of Astoria, Christy (and Karl) Hall of Browning, Robert Jr. (and Anna) Pilger of Astoria, 17 Grandchildren, 8 Great-Grandchildren, 2 brothers, Steve Pilger of Havana and Russell (and Sheila) Pilger of Peoria...and his sidekick little dog Lizzy.

He is preceded in death by his parents Russel and Frances; 3 sisters Clara Mae, Jean and Judy, his brother Bill and 2 grandchildren, Rj and Kaylynn.

He retired from Oscar Mayer/Excel after over 35 years.

He dedicated many years to serving the City of Browning as a volunteer firefighter, managed the waterworks, and maintained Browning township cemeteries.

Bob loved his family, John Deere tractors, watching westerns, and enjoyed church on Sundays where he was a member of Browning Christian Church. He also loved cookouts, family reunions, farming, gardening, and talking to his brothers on the phone.

A visitation will be held from 5 pm to 7pm on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Shawgo Memorial Home. Pastor John Plunkett will be officiating. Interment will be in the Browning Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Browning Fire Department or the Browning Township Cemetery.
