Richard W. Ford, 77, of Havana, IL, passed away at 9:09 pm on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Mason District Hospital in Havana. He was born on August 15, 1946, the son of Elmer and Genevieve (Dobson) Ford. Richard married Rose Davis on November 4, 2006 in Lewistown, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are his children; Theresa (and Rick) Abbadusky of Clarksville, TN, Leota (and Fred) Carrigan of Norris, IL, Thomas Zeglen of Canton, IL, Misty (and Dick) Brown of Banner, IL, Kristina Berry of Brereton, IL, Jason Ford of Nashville, TN, J.R. (and Daphne) Smith of Bath, IL, Lucas (and Kristen) Gebhardt of Springfield, IL, and Samuel (and Kristen) Donovan of Camp Lejeune, NC, 31 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, six brothers; Michael (and Debbie) Ford of Smithfield, IL, Patrick Ford of Mississippi, Steven “Pete” (and Kim) Ford of Ipava, IL, Kenneth (and Lori) Ford of Lewistown, IL, Chuck Ford of Ohio, and James (and Billie) Ford of Tennessee, and two sisters; Jean Peters and Debbie (Randy) Ward both of Astoria, IL
He is preceded in death by one daughter, Trisha Smith, and one sister, Janice Dick.
Richard was a United States Army Veteran, serving from 1968 to 1969.
Richard was man of many talents with his last employment at Caterpillar in Peoria, working for Securitas.
He was a member of the Lewistown VFW Post 5001. He loved to fish, have coffee at McDonalds and Hardees with the boys, read and collect William Johnstone, Zane Gray and Louis Lamour books. He enjoyed 1960’s and 70’s music, online auctions, purchasing collectables and coins for his collection. He was a master solitaire player.
A graveside service will be held at 10 am on Friday, January 26, 2024 at the Woodland Cemetery in Astoria, IL. Pastor John Vaughn will be officiating. Military Rites will be provided by the Lewistown VFW Post 5001. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Thursday, January 25, 2025 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL.
