JoAnn Whiteman

JoAnn Whiteman, 91, of Canton, passed away peacefully at 9:15 pm, December 31, 2023 at the Graham Hospital in Canton surrounded by her loving family. She gained her wings and went to walk with the angels. She was born on August 1, 1932 in Canton to William and Virginia (Murphy) Schindler. They preceded her in death along with one sister Lila Lundry, her daughter and son-in-law, Lila (Claude) Garzee Sr, grandson Shawn Whiteman and two great grandsons; Shawn and Jacob Garzee. Joann is survived by three sons; William (Vicki) Whiteman of Wee-Ma-Tuk, Gerry (Bob) Whiteman of Pensacola, Fl. and Calvin (Bernadine) Whiteman of Canton, seven grandchildren; Sherry Whiteman, Claude Garzee Jr, Billy Whiteman, Tracy Walker, Jason Garzee, Mary Hasse, Debbie Krull and twelve great-grandchildren; Tyler Baughman, Kyndra Bitner, Kaleb Whiteman, Mariah Garzee, Sydney Hannam, Kaeden Whiteman, Nick Garzee, Alexa Johnson, Addyson Ford, Greyson Douglas, Peyton Douglas and Brinley Garzee.

She worked for ARA vending company, filling the machines inside International Harvester, also working as a manager at Ben Franklin, and spent her final working days at Emerald Estates caring for the residents like they were her own family members.

JoAnn volunteered at the food pantry at the First Baptist church. She was a lifetime member of weight watchers. She loved to go to auctions, shopping and spending time with her grandchildren. Per JoAnn’s wishes, there will be no services. Cremation rites will be accorded with Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton. JoAnn will be buried at Greenwood Cemetery at a later date next to her parents and sister. Memorials can be made to her family to help offset burial expenses.
