Mary Medus

Mary Medus, 91 of Canton, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025 at Red Oaks Memory Care in Canton. She was born on January 14, 1934 in Joshua Township to Fred and Clara (Vincamp) Churchill.

She married Glen Medus on June 22, 1979. He preceded her in death on January 16, 2020.

Surviving is her daughter, Tanna (Kevin) Schnake of Colorado Springs, CO, Step children, Craig (Keri) Medus of Canton, Becki Janicke of Clinton Township, MI, twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death is her son Tim Taylor, daughter, Rhonda Taylor, step daughter, Terri Medus, brothers, Donald Churchill, Jerry Churchill and sisters, Alice Tessier and Clara Belle Pritchard.

Mary loved growing up on the farm in Fiatt and had fond memories of her and her sister Clara running around in the old Packard her dad Fred bought for them.

She worked for International Harvester in Canton and was a past member of Locust Lane Church. She enjoyed traveling and camping with her husband Glen whom she loved dearly. She would spend her spare time cooking, gardening and laughing with her family and friends. Mary was a sassy and spirited mother who worked hard most of her life. She will be greatly missed.

Cremation rites will be accorded with Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton. A burial of her ashes will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery with her husband Glen at a later date.

Phyllis Whitehead

Phyllis Whitehead, 86, of Canton, passed away, Friday, July 25, 2025, at her home.

She was born on February 20, 1939, in Canton, to Bill and Helen (Lucas) Horton. They preceded her in death.

Phyllis married Gerald “G.B.” Whitehead on May 17, 1957, in Canton. He preceded her in death on February 8, 2025.

Surviving are her children, Douglas Whitehead of Canton, Angie Latimer of Lewistown, four grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Phyllis was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Canton. She enjoyed volunteering for countless organizations in Canton over the years. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.

John M. Schlobohm

John M. Schlobohm, 78, of Edwards Illinois, passed away, Friday, July 25, 2025, at Lincoln Village Nursing Home in Lincoln Illinois.

He was born on February 12, 1947, in St. Louis Missouri, to John “Jack” Schlobohm, and Margaret (Hess) Schlobohm. They preceded him in death as well as one brother Dennis (Kim) Schlobohm, and one great grandson Beau.

John Married Cheryl (Binegar) Schlobohm, on May 15, 1976, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Elmwood. Cheryl preceded him in death on February 26, 2018.

He is survived by two sons, Ryan (Carolyn) Schlobohm of Arizona, and Jeremy (Michelle) Schlobohm of Louisiana, four grandchildren, Brock, Hailey (Ethan), Bryce, and Seth, three brothers, Michael (Jodie) Schlobohm, David (Steve) Schlobohm, and Jimmy (Colleen) Schlobohm.

John is a Veteran of the United States Army. He served in active duty for four years during the Vietnam War. He then served in the United States Army Reserves for four years at Fort Leonardwood.

John Graduated from Illinois Central College in Peoria. He first worked for Emro marketing company at the Speedway Station in Peoria and later in Chillicothe. John lasty worked for Proctor and Gamble in Peoria.

John was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan he enjoyed watching them play and was able to attend their 1964 World Series victory, as well as their 2011 victory. He also enjoyed following the St. Louis Blues. He enjoyed listening to music and most of all John enjoyed being with his family.

Cremation rites will be accorded with Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Elmwood a celebration of life will be held and announced at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse.

Drake Smith

Drake Smith, 62, of Canton, passed away on July 24, 2025 at the Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. He was born on November 27, 1962 in Canton to Damon and Elaine (Mickalonis) Smith. Drake married Lesa Snider on September 7, 1985 in Canton. She survives along with their son Beau (Chelsae) Smith of Canton, two brothers; Darin Smith and Derek Smith, sister Sabrina Palmer and three grandchildren; Anna, Cloe and Ace.

Drake worked for Wareco/Circle K for over 38 years, retiring in 2021. He loved to hunt and fish, but most of all loved his family, especially his grandkids.

Craig J. Bouc

Craig J. Bouc, 59, of Canton, passed away at 1:22 AM on Sunday, July 27, 2025 at his home. He was born on December 14, 1965 in Canton, IL, to Matthew and Shirley (Fitch) Bouc. He first married Ginger Davison Graham. He later married Karen Deakin in March 2006. She survives.

He is also survived by his parents; five children, Curtis (Abbi) Bouc of Canton, IL, Sara (Anthony) Courtney of Peoria, AZ, Joshua (Michaela) Remels of Cuba, IL, Kyle (Chelsea) Remels of Divernon, IL, and Emily Remels of Canton, IL; ten grandchildren, Charlie, Jade, Silas, Adalynn, Harper, Camden, Sophia, Brooke, Colsen, and Aria;

He is preceded in death by one grandchild, Tyson and one sister, Teri Kruzan.

Craig was a member of Sheet Metal Workers local 1 for 30 years. He worked for J & A Fritch Sheet Metal and later Caterpillar. Craig was an avid fan of Kiss, Chicago Bears, and Chicago Cubs. Craig loved dirt track racing and watching his son, Curtis race.

Memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Friday, August 1, 2025 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL. Phillip D. Workman

Phillip D. Workman, age 82 of Astoria, Illinois passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 26, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on January 19, 1943 in rural Astoria, the son of Everett and Lola Pearl (Smith) Workman. He married Vicki I. St. Dennis on March 23, 1963 in Canton, Illinois. She preceded him in death on August 3, 1998.

Surviving are his two daughters, Tammy Peterman and Linda (Dickie) Fisher, seven grandchildren; Brandon (Lindsey Rohbaugh) Workman, Bradley (Savannah Nelson) Workman, Catherine (Jay Meisner) Peterman, Jeremy (Chrissy) Fisher, Matthew (Rebecca Lytle) Fisher, Amanda (Justin) Gulick and Amy (Curtis) Sprout, several great and great-great-grandchildren.

Phillip was preceded in death by three children; Valerie Lynn, Barbara Jo and Terry Allen Workman, his parents, brother Dwayne Workman and nephew Gary Workman.

He worked at the Vermont Foundry in the early 1960’s and then went to work at Caterpillar for 31 years before retiring.

Phillip was an inaugural board member of the South Fulton Water District and stayed on the board for many years. He was also a member of the Vermont Masonic Lodge for 30 years.

A part time farmer who enjoyed raising cows, pigs, chickens, ducks and turkeys. He enjoyed riding around on his tractors and traveling. He was always very interested in the Civil War and anything John Wayne.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service in the Astoria Cemetery will be held at a later date. Memorials in memory of Phillip may be given to the Astoria Fire and Rescue Squad and sent to Shawgo Memorial Home, PO Box 525, Astoria, IL 61501.

Carol Harmon

Carol Jo Harmon (Peterson) passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 20th, 2025, at the age of 74. She was born on September 25, 1951 at Graham Hospital in Canton.

Carol graduated from Pekin Community High School and studied piano performance at Bradley University.

Carol was a brilliant pianist and a talented seamstress, but above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and daughter.

Her passion for music was a guiding force in her life - she taught private piano lessons for over 50 years and was deeply involved with the Pekin Community High School 303 as choir accompanist and Canton School District 66, where she served as an accompanist and mentor to countless students.

Carol also found great joy in sharing her musical gifts through her service as the children’s choir director at First Christian Church, Canton, and as an accompanist and organists for Pekin First Methodist Church, Tremont First Methodist Church, Canton First Methodist Church, First Christian Church of Canton, and First Christian Church of Macomb.

Over the years Carol was also an accompanist for Illinois Central College Community Chorus, Spoon River College Community Chorus, Ephphetha Ecumenical Choir Peoria, Pekin Civic Chorus, and Fulton County Playhouse.

Her love for music was matched only by her affection for her dogs and grand-dogs, who brought her daily joy and companionship.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 47 years, John Harmon of Canton, IL. They were married at the 1st Methodist Church in Pekin on October 7, 1977.

Also surviving is her daughter Amy Norman, son-in-law Jesse Norman, and cherished grandson Exley Norman, all of Brisbane, Australia; her brother Richard (Mary Beth) Peterson of Rock Island, IL, and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother John Peterson, her father and mother Glenn and Maxine (Cheek) Peterson.

A visitation to celebrate Carol’s life will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025 from 5-7pm at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton. A funeral service held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at 11am at the First Christian Church in Canton with a visitation held one hour prior at church. Friends and loved ones are invited to join in honoring her memory and the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to an education fund for her grandson Exley, C/O CEFCU.
