Shannan Marie Curths

Shannan Marie Curths, age 47 of Alton, Illinois, passed away at 4:10 pm Wednesday, March 2, 2022 in the ER at Alton Memorial Hospital. She was born on July 3, 1975 in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of Michael and Dawn (Hickle) Bollinger. She married Edward Alan Curths on April 10, 1999 in Vermont, Illinois. He survives.

Also surviving are her daughter, Sierra Curths of Alton and two sons, David (and Jicole) Hickle of Easton, Illinois and Isaiah Curths of Alton, four grandchildren, Abbigail Tangman, Rage Hickle, Emma Curths and Ellie Curths, her mother Dawn Hickle of Vermont, Illinois, grandfather Wayne Bollinger of Browning, Illinois, grandmother Marie Hickle of Vermont, Illinois, two sisters, Jennifer (and Nick) Robertson of Ipava, Illinois and Marie (and Andrew) Belden of Vermont, Illinois and two brothers, Elijah Smith of Champaign, Illinois and Aaron Ash of Vermont, Illinois.

Shannan was preceded in death by her father, grandfather Stanley Hickle and grandmother Dora "Dee" Bollinger.

She was a graduate of Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois with a Masters of Education. She was an English teacher, teaching middle school and high school English. Lately, she was a substitute teacher for Alton area school districts.

Shannan loved spending time with her grandchildren and family. She enjoyed boating, reading, especially crime stories, and riding motorcycles with her husband.

Services will be held on Monday, March 7th at 2:00 pm at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, Illinois. Pastor Matthew Thiner will officiate. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Vermont Cemetery. Memorials in Shannan's memory may be made to Dark Horse Lodge in Springville, TN or the Jared Burke Foundation in Bartelso, IL.

Barbara Jean Miller

Barbara Jean Miller, age 77 of Astoria, Illinois, passed away at 10:00 pm on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Graham Hospital in Canton, Illinois. She was born on August 4, 1944 in Canton, the daughter of Arthur J. and Leta M. (Mellier) Pittman. On August 4, 1963, Barb married John L. Miller in Astoria. He preceded her in death on April 3, 1990.

She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Howard and Alice Pittman, Richard and Bess Pittman, Charles and Roxie Pittman, Jack and Pollyanna Pittman, Robert Pittman, Maralea and Phillip Kessler and Ethan Gramm.

Barb is survived by her three sons; Gale Miller of Ellijay, Georgia, Blake (and Robinette) Miller of Vermont, Illinois and Josh (and Emily) Miller of Astoria, five grandchildren; Elizabeth (and Riley) Mitsdarffer, Johnathon Miller, Jackson Miller, Jonah Miller and Drew Miller, her sister Elizabeth Gramm of Nashville, Tennessee and her sister-in-law Marianne Pittman of Dublin, Ohio.

She was a devoted mother, sister, grandmother and aunt. Barb was a farm wife, homemaker, florist and baker. She will be remembered by her many wonderful baked goods and meals that individuals enjoyed throughout her years.

Barb was a devoted Christian and lifelong member of the Grace Bible Church of Astoria. She also served on the Astoria Public Library Board.

Her favorite pastime was being a fan of her grandchildren's South Fulton Rebel activities.

Services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, March 9th at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Ben Murray will officiate. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 8th from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery. Memorials may be given in Barb's memory to the Grace Bible Church of Astoria.

Suzanne Marie Fouts

Suzanne Marie Fouts, age 57 of Ipava, Illinois, passed away at 5:40 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. She was born on October 3, 1964 in Aurora, Illinois, the daughter of Robert and Mary Anne (Tuer) Nelson. On March 16, 1982, Suzanne married Rex Fouts in Table Grove, Illinois. He survives.

Also surviving are her children, Bradley (and Sam) Fouts of Table Grove, Illinois and Amber (and Chris) Moreland of Evansville, Wisconsin, her son-in-law Brian Colston of Ipava, Illinois, 5 grandchildren; Bryce, Brodie, Hannah, Madilyn and Autumn, and 2 brothers, Jeff Nelson of Beason, Illinois and Greg (and Debby) Nelson of Montgomery, Illinois.

Suzanne was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Heather Colston.

She worked in the trust department at Mid-American National Bank in Macomb, Illinois for 15 years. She was also the owner and operator of Simply Suzanne in Ipava and Macomb for 15 years.

She enjoyed crafting and deeply loved her family.

Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 5th at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, Illinois. Pastor Tim Lindsay will officiate. Visitation will take place from 5-7 pm on Friday, March 4th at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Ipava Cemetery. Frances L. Hartle

Frances L. Hartle, 95, of Canton, passed away at 3:20 AM on Monday, February 28, 2022 at Graham Hospital in Canton, IL. She was born on November 1, 1926 in Farmington, IL to Tony and Olga (Delak) Kauzlarich. She married Ray Hartle on July 13, 1947 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Rectory in Canton, IL. He preceded her in death in 2008.

Frances is also preceded in death by her parents, two children, Patricia Widger and Jerome Hartle; three brothers, Joe, Julian, and Frank Kauzlarich; and three sisters, Rose McMeen, Margaret Wilson, and Anne Wolf.

She is survived by four children, Marianne (Victor) Pilkinton of St. David, IL, Dennis (Wanda) Hartle of Savannah, TN, Bernard and George Hartle both of Canton, IL; and one sister, Berniece Young of Florida.

In her younger years she enjoyed league bowling, playing cards and bingo. She was a very good cook and always invited visitors for something to eat. She was a past member of The Altar & Rosary Society and volunteered at the St. Mary’s food pantry and at the Y.W.C.A. for the noon meals. She was also a boy scout leader in the 60’s. In 1971 she obtained her lifelong goal of becoming a nurse (LPN). She was also a member of Young at Heart HEA.

Bonnie C. Hagen

Bonnie C. Hagen, 86, of Maquon, IL passed away at 9:45 PM with her family by her side on

Sunday, February 27, 2022. She was born on September 1, 1935, in Canton,IL. She was the
daughter of Alva and Leota (Ashby) Lingenfelter. She married her loving husband of 65 years,
John L. “Jack” Hagen on July 1, 1953, in Canton, and remained faithfully married. They have
now reunited in heaven.

She is survived by her children, John G. Hagen, of Rapatee, Tim (Michelle) Hagen of Peoria,
Lynnette Hagen of Lakewood, CA and longtime best friend, Sonya Levitt and one brother,
Ronald Lingerfelter (Judy) of Salem, AL.
She is preceded in death by her parents, one son,
John Michael Hagen, daughter in law Ronda Hagen, and one brother Raymond Lingenfelter.

Bonnie is remembered as a woman of strong faith, as she attended Coal Creek Bible Church.
She retired as a baker from Canton Junior High School cafeteria. She also enjoyed working at
Silver Dollar City in the pottery shop where she "never met a stranger". Most importantly, she
was known as a loving mother who always took care of her family. In her free time, she enjoyed
sewing, quilting, and loved her wildlife, especially her birds.

Funeral Service will be held at 5 PM on Friday, March 4, 2022 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 5:00 PM the same day. Georgina C. "Jean" Intravartolo

Dunfermline - Georgina C. "Jean" Intravartolo, 94, formerly of Arlington Heights, IL, passed away peacefully at Graham Hospital with her family at her bedside.

She was born April 22, 1927, in Dunfermline to Charles "Karlo" and Vicencia (Juraco) Grzanich. She married Joseph A. Intravartolo on September 27, 1947 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Des Plaines, IL. After fifty-seven years of marriage, he preceded her in death on November 27, 2004.

Jean is survived by three daughters, and, as she would say the "best son-in-law in the world". They include Cindy Intravartolo and Diane Intravartolo of Dunfermline, IL and Michelle (Greg) Hillebrenner of Louisburg, NC. In addition she is survived by two grandsons, Matthew (Elizabeth) Hillebrenner of Silver Spring, MD and Michael (Lindsay) Hillebrenner of South Elgin, IL., along with five great grandchildren, as well as, numerous nieces and nephews, and her faithful companion, her cat Tiger for the last seventeen years. She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, six sisters, and three nephews.

She grew up in rural central Illinois during the Depression era without a mother. She recounted stories of making underwear out of plain flour sacks and kitchen curtains out of printed rice sacks. Animals served an agricultural purpose; they were sources of milk, meat and eggs; rarely as pets and never in the house. In spite of all that, she allowed her children to have a variety of pets that included fish, birds, guinea pigs, dogs and many sets of orphaned kittens. She grew up with a fear of water and never learned how to swim, but she resolved that her children would not have that fear. Not only did they all learn to swim but one of them even participated on a competitive synchronized swimming team. She was not able to attend high school, but again, she resolved that her children would have the opportunity for higher education and they did not disappoint her. They all had successful professional careers in veterinary medicine, human medicine and business administration.

She will be remembered for her great family meals and cooking skills. She learned how to fix many Italian dishes specific to her husband Joe's heritage, and will always be remembered for her famous Italian fig (cucidati) cookies and Croatian nut roll (povitica) at holidays. She was also known for her lemon meringue pie, upside down pineapple cake and maple nut chiffon cake, but her personal favorite was coconut cream pie. No one ever left her house hungry and or went home without a care package.

She loved country music and was ever so proud to be a coal miner's daughter. She enjoyed flower gardening, a legacy she left to all of her daughters. She was a great seamstress and craft person until arthritis settled in her arms and she was no longer able to do it. She enjoyed traveling and fulfilled a lifelong dream when she went to Hawaii. She was an avid Cubs fan and was ever so thankful that she lived to see them win a World Series.

It would be remiss if it was not mentioned that she was known to be very outspoken at times. She rarely hesitated to tell you what she thought and always tried to have the last word. She surprised her parish priest once when she told him the women's rest room needed a new toilet and she kept after him until a new one was installed. Afterwards he frequently referred to it as, "Jean's Toilet".

Special thanks go out to friends, Curtis and Jack for including her in their home and hospital visits with the Blessed Sacrament of Holy Communion. The family is especially grateful to Dr. Kenneth Krock and the exceptional staff at the long term care facility at Graham Hospital for the outstanding care, compassion and friendship they provided to her during the recent months. Thanks also go out to the care givers at the Central Illinois Agency on Aging and Visiting Angels which allowed her to stay at home for as long as she was able.

Roscoe W. Bickel

Canton - Roscoe W. Bickel, 81, of Canton, passed away, Tuesday, February 16, 2022, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born on April 29, 1940, to Roscoe W. and Clara C. (Hapner). They preceded him in death.
He married Barbara L. (Brown) on November 24, 1976. She preceded him in death in 2018.
Surviving are seven children, Diana (Jeff) Keime, Janet (Karl Zempel) Welker, Randy (Laurie) Bickel, Jeanette Kees, Roscoe (Elizabeth) Bickel, Susan (Robert) Norris and Christina (William) Norris, one brother Jake Foster, 17 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Roscoe retired from International Harvester in 1990. He worked at the Canton facility from 1959 - 1983 and later worked in Springfield, Ohio until his retirement. He was an avid gardener and he enjoyed woodworking. Roscoe also loved his faithful dogs, Marsha and Sandy.
