Donald "D.J." West

Lewistown – Donald D.J. West, 45, passed away on Monday, October 2, 2017, at the Unity Point Methodist Hospital in Peoria.
He was born on July 16, 1972, in Canton, to James “Jim” and Darlene (Mathis) West.  They preceded him in death along with his daughter, Katelyn West and a brother, Jim West.
Surviving are his children, Kody West, Austin West, Hunter West, brothers, Billy (Evelyn) west of St. David, Randy West of Lincoln, sisters, Sheila Gray of Lewistown, Sherry (Dennis) Freesmeyer of Winchester and grandchildren, Braxton, Bailey, Oliver and Gracelyn.
D.J. worked in Security and was a volunteer for the Buckheart Fire Department, Copperas Creek Fire Department and the Woodson Fire Department.
A visitation will be held Friday October 6, 2017, from 5-7pm, at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, with a funeral service on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at 11 am, at the funeral home.
Burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery

Jesse “Jute” Chambers

Lewistown- Jesse “Jute” Chambers Jr; 90, of Lewistown, passed away at 11:45 PM Monday October 2, 2017 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born March 13, 1927 at rural Delmont, South Dakota, the son of Jesse and Bertha (White) Chambers. He married Wanda Barker in February 1950 at Lewistown.. She survives with three children, Don (Betty) Chasteen of Elmhurst, Tate (Cathy) Chambers of Morton, and Lori (Linda Branton) Chambers of Lewistown, nine grandchildren, Nicole (Brad) Hardesty, Andrea (Mike) Tromp, Katie Chambers, Jeff (Erin) Chambers, Jessica (Dr. Dan) Bunzol, Sarah Tate Chambers, Jason (Lindsey) Ellison, and Shawn Ellison, nine great grandchildren, and one sister, Ruby Dean of New Lenox. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister.

Jute was a star basketball player in high school and turned down an offer to play basketball at Bradley University to join the Army at the end of WW 2.

Jute retired from the Illinois Power plant in Havana. He had also owned and operated several local businesses for over 50 years. He was an Army veteran and a member of the Lewistown American Legion. He was also a member of the Crossroads Methodist Church in Lewistown, the Alligators Club, and Ameren Retirees Club. He had been involves with various youth activities, and was an avid Cubs fan.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at Crossroads Methodist Church in Lewistown, with Reverend Larry Wright officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 5-7 PM at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with military rites conducted by Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and American Legion Bishop Post 1. Memorial contributions may be made to the Crossroads Methodist Church. Kevin L. Bills

Peoria – Kevin L. Bills, 58, of Peoria, passed away at 2:53 PM on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL. He was born on March 11, 1959 in Red Bud, IL to Billy and Clara Jo (Reinhardt) Bills.

Surviving is his father, Billy Bills; three children, Stacy Bills-Werry of Canton, Christopher Bills of Peoria, and Rosalie Bills of Canton; five grandchildren; one brother, William J. Bills of N.C.; step-mother, Norma Bills; step-sister, Shonna Bates of Canton; and many nieces and nephews.

Kevin was preceded in death by his mother, Clara Jo (Reinhardt) Bills, and his sister, Robin L. Wefenstette.

Kevin loved stock car races, photography, making clocks, and fishing.

Kevin was a veteran in the United States Army.

Gail Probyn

Gail Probyn, 68, of Monticello, IN, formerly of Canton, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2017, at the Monticello Health Care in IN.  Services are pending at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton.

Rev. Ralph Hill

Rev. Ralph A. Hill, 79, of Canton passed away Saturday September 30, 2017 at his residence.
He was born April 15, 1938 in Seymour Indiana. The son of Clyde and Irma Hill.
He married Charity (Rodefer) Hill on August 11, 1962 in Malden, Illinois they were married for 50 years. She preceded him in death in 2013.
They raised two children David Hill and Jolie (Mike) Shaw both of Canton and both survive along with four grandchildren, Grant (Chelsea) Shaw, April (Steven) Snider, Ethan Shaw, and Dennis Ledbetter. One brother Bob (Janet) Hill of Columbus Indiana, two sisters Connie (Jude) Richardson of Cogan Station, Pennsylvania and LuAnn (Gordon) Barker of Edinburg, Indiana.
Preceding Ralph in death were his parents and two brothers, Scott and Doug Hill.
Ralph graduated from Olivet Nazarene University and The Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, he worked in pastoral ministry for the Church of The Nazarene for 35 years with over 13 years being in Canton. He was also a Chaplin at O.S.F. Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria for 10 years, retiring in 2010.  Ralph loved people and his minister’s heart found ways to minister and care for family and friends right up to his eternal homecoming. He knew no strangers and touched many lives.
He loved and was very proud of his family and cherished time spent with them. He also loved fishing and going to Little Giant Football games. He will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved him. He was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, pastor and friend.
Ralph was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Canton where a funeral service will be held on, Friday October 6, 2017 at 11 am. The Reverend Dennis Owens will officiate. Visitation will be held on Thursday October 5, 2017 from 4pm until 7pm at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, and again on Friday morning from 10 am until time of the service at his church.
Burial will be held at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Canton.
Memorials may be made out to his church or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Margaret “Maggie” Crowell

Canton- Margaret “Maggie”. Crowell, 80 of Canton passed away Sunday October 1, 2017 at Graham Hospital in Canton.
She was born on February 14, 1937 in Senath MO to Truman and Levertia (Sandefer) Randl,
She married Clifton Crowell, he proceeded her in death
She is survived by five children, Pat (Ken) Billington, Dan (Kandi Promisson) Crowell, David (Lynn) Crowell, Laurie (Everett Yerbic) Crowell and Tim (Donna) Crowell of Tennesee, one brother Larry (Linda) Randl, two sisters Joyce (The Late Kenny) Crowell, Carolyn (Gary) Dannison, fifteen grandchildren and nineteen great – grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents and one brother Bill (Janie) Randl.  .
Margaret enjoyed baking, arts and crafts, playing cards and dominos.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 10 am until 12 noon at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton.
Burial will be held immediately following the visitation at Bushnell Cemetery.

Sally J. Barnett

Sally J. Barnett, 72 of Canton, passed away at 11:20 PM on Friday, September 29, 2017 at her residence. She was born on December 30, 1944 in Peoria, a daughter of Raymond and Helen (Boughan) Finley. She married the love of her life Harold Barnett on October 19, 1963 in Canton. He survives.

Also surviving are her children, William Barnett, Sonja (Barnett- Baker) Strubbe, Annette (Blake) Myers and Douglas Barnett all of Canton; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and one sister Vicki Daily of Canton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Harold Barnett Jr.; three grandchildren and one sister, Joan Turley.

Sally graduated Canton High School, was a homemaker, and was of the Nazarene Faith, she enjoyed traveling and fishing, was an avid Chicago Cubs Fan, and she loved to be near her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
