Kenneth "Kenny" L. Miars

Kenneth "Kenny" L. Miars, 80, of Elmwood, passed away at 4:17 p.m., on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 12, 1942, in Princeville, to John K. "Pete" and Susie (Newman) Miars. He married Deborah Johnston at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Elmwood. She survives.

He is also survived by two children, Tara (Eric) Yarbrough and Jennifer (Wes) Crew; four grandchildren, Hannah, Madisyn, Draven, and Riggs; four siblings, John (Marlene) Miars, Patricia Brooks, Charles (Janet) Miars, and Teresa Meservey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Carl.
Kenny graduated from Brimfield High School in 1961. He then served in United States Marine Corps. He was a member and past Commander of V.F.W. #4724 and American Legion Post #638 in Elmwood. He was also a sports official for over 40 years and had the honor of umpiring for the Little League World Series events in Cooperstown, NY. In 2014, he was inducted into the Illinois NSA Hall of Fame.
Kenny attended Farmington New Hope Fellowship Church.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, December 16, 2022, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Elmwood. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow the service at Yates City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elmwood Athletic Department and VFW Post #4724.
