Occupation:  worked for AMAX coal company at the Sunspot Mine in Vermont, IL until 1984 upon its closing. He would go on to retire from the Wabash Mine in Mt. Carmel in 1994. 

Military:  served in the US Air Force as an air craft mechanic from 1951 to 1955.

Memberships:  Bernard was a member of the Vermont Masonic Lodge and the Macomb American Legion. He was also a long time member of the New Salem Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was an avid rabbit hunter. He also raised beagles and loved his beagles.

Services:   Cremation rites have been accorded.
