David A. Hayes


Lewistown- David A. Hayes, 92, of Lewistown, passed away at 12:37 AM Sunday April 14, 2019 at Graham Hospital in Canton.

He was born April 25, 1926 at Jasonville, IN, the son of Earl B. and Louise (Bone) Hayes. He married Viola Edwards Griffith on January 15, 1965 at Elmwood. She died June 22, 1992. He later married Marianne Lester Nolan on December 11, 1993 at Lewistown. She survives with his step children, Terry (Carol) Griffith of rural Havana, Timothy (Margi) Griffith of Jackson, WY; and Thomas (Grace) Griffith of Mesa, AZ;  James Nolan of Lewistown, John Nolan of Canton, and Jill Lawver of Lewistown, 18 grandchildren, 24  great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two step children, three brothers, and two sisters.

Dave was a retired coal miner and a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was a WW 2 Army veteran and recipient of a Purple Heart.  He was a long time active member of the Lewistown First Presbyterian Church, and was a volunteer for 25 years for the Lunch with Friends program at the church. He was also a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at the Lewistown First Presbyterian Church where visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Pastor Penny Frame will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with military rites accorded by Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and American Legion Bishop Post 1. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewistown First Presbyterian Church or the Renaissance Care Center Activity Fund.
