Gary Grove


Canton – Gary Grove, 78, of Canton, passed away at 4:40 PM on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home. He was born on August 3, 1940 to Cecil Gayle and Josephine (Busby) Grove then raised by Cecil Gayle and his second wife Jessie Mae Pickel. He married Mary Ellen Neville on August 25, 1959 until her death in 1986. Gary married Sandra Malone-Collins on June 3, 1994, she survives.

He was a loving father to 7 children, Christopher (Jeannette) Grove, Kathy (Steve) Graham, Carol (Pete) Sergeant, Timothy (Tracy) Grove, Barbara “Buffy” (Matthew) Barlow, Cora (Joe) Fross, Joshua (Megan) Grove. He was also a loving step-father to 4 children, James A. (Angie) Collins, Luther A. (Laurie) Collins Jr., Timothy Collins, and Jeanine L. (John) Lund. Papa Grove will be missed by 27 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are five brothers, Bob, Dick, Mike, Chuck, and Greg Grove; and two sisters, Sandra Stoneking and Enola Mathis.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Mary, one brother, Jim Grove, and one sister, Rosemary Hinderliter.

Gary retired from Caterpillar after 30 years, and also worked 15 years at Illinois Weld & Machine in Hanna City. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton. Gary was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears Fan. He was truly loved by many.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Friday, February 8, 2019 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton. Father Daniel Ebker will officiate.
