Jerry Lefler


Canton – It is with great sadness that the family of Jerry Leon Lefler announces his passing on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at the age of 71 years.

A native of Canton, IL, Jerry married Sue Stairwalt on September 4, 1965 in Canton. He worked at the Dog and Suds before starting his career with Caterpillar. In his 32-year career, he held several positions with the last being a millwright. After retiring from Caterpillar, he worked for 10 years at AutoZone.

Jerry was an active member of the Morning Star Lodge #734 AF & AM. He was initiated as an Entered Apprentice on February 10, 1970, passed to the degree of Fellowcraft on March 26, 1970 and raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on May 1, 1970. Jerry served as Worshipful Master in 1997 and worked various officer chairs. Jerry was also a 48-year member of Morning Star Lodge. He was a 42-year member of the Valley of Peoria Scottish Rite. In addition to his work with the Morning Star Lodge, he was also an active member of the Canton Jaycees. Jerry enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sue, daughter, Tammy (Brian) House, son, Tom (Candy) Lefler, mother-in-law, Pat Stairwalt, three grandchildren, Jade, Madison, and Mackenzie, two great-grandchildren, Damian and Sadie, Sister, Fran.

Preceding Jerry in death are his parents, Howard and Genevieve (Owens) Lefler, Father-in-Law, Rollie Sairwalt, grandson, Josh Watkins, two brothers, Harold and Lyle Jean. Jerry will also be forever remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and dear friends.

Memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the Morning Star Masonic Lodge, 1165 N. Main St, Canton, IL. Following the service food & refreshments will be available.
