Barbara E. Taylor


Gilson – Barbara E. Taylor, 82, of Gilson, passed away at 7:58 AM on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, IL. She was born on April 16, 1936 in Canton to Clifford A. and Nellie (Smith) Bump. Barbara was raised near Fiatt and graduated from Cuba High School in 1954. She married Richard Taylor on October 1, 1955 in Maquon. He preceded her in death on April 18, 2007.

Also preceding her in death are her parents; one daughter, Laura Sue Taylor; brother, Clifford F. Bump; two sisters, Arleta McWhorter and Bernita Beatty.

Surviving are six children, Linda Kidder of Galesburg, Richard (Kim) Taylor of Maquon, Debbie (Duane) Swisher of Galesburg, James Taylor of Rockford, Julia Williams of Maquon, and Michelle (Charles) Taylor-Mann of Chicago; six grandchildren; Annette Kidder, Amanda Behymer, Zachary (Laura) Williams, Colton Taylor, Adam (Emily) Hensley, Shawn (Michelle) Hensley; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, and one sister, Maryelen Brown of Springfield.

Barbara worked for State of Illinois at the Galesburg Mental Health Center, then later worked and retired from Zeller’s Mental Health Center in Peoria in 1992. She was a member in good standing of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants and a 50-year member of the Knox County Farm Bureau. Barbara also served as an election judge for Orange Township.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 3, 2018 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL, where a visitation will be 1-hour prior to service. Rev. David Kramer will officiate. Burial will follow at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton, IL. Memorials can be made to the Maquon Fire Protection District First Responders.
