Gerald "Jerry" McCoy

 ELMWOOD -- Gerald "Jerry" A. McCoy, 79, of Elmwood, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 4, 2015 at Farmington Country Manor.
    Jerry was born August 25, 1935 in Oak Hill, IL to Shelby and Mary (Bleichner) McCoy.
    He is survived by Mary (Geier) McCoy of Elmwood, his wife of 56 years; daughters Patty (Joey) Tusek of Yates City and Chris (Ben) Hamilton of Dunlap; son Greg (Liz) McCoy of Brimfield; eight grandchildren, Shane, Nathan (Alaina), Cody and Amanda Hamilton, Megan Tusek, and Matthew, Sam and Thomas McCoy; and, great granddaughter Carson Hamilton.  He is also survived by his sister Lois Cluskey of Brimfield and brothers Bill (Jean) McCoy of Princeville, Don McCoy of Trivoli, Larry McCoy of Elmwood and Terry (Linda) McCoy of Oak Hill.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers -- Lyle, Bobbie, Andy and Joe McCoy; and three sisters, Dorothy Rowan, Bettylee Isaacson and Judy Schupp.
    Jerry grew up in Oak Hill, IL and graduated from Elmwood High School in 1953.  Following high school, he worked as a tool design apprentice at Caterpillar.  From 1958 to1964, he served proudly as an Airman 1st Class in the Air National Guard.  Upon completion of his service, he worked at L. R. Nelson for 15 years before rejoining Caterpillar.  He retired from Caterpillar in 1996.
    Jerry was a devout Catholic and Eucharistic Minister at St. Patrick's Catholic Church.  He was a member of Maple Lane Country Club for 40 years and was an avid golfer.  Jerry also loved camping, cutting firewood, working on his farm, cheering for the Cubs and spending countless hours with family and friends.
    The family would like to thank the dedicated employees at Farmington Country Manor and VITAS Hospice Care for all their loving care and attention.
   A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2015 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Elmwood, where visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m.  Burial with military honors will be at Elmwood Township Cemetery.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Jude's Midwest Affiliate or VITAS Hospice Care.
