Raymond E. Wages
Raymond E. Wages, 96, of Canton, passed away, Sunday, August 18, 2024, at Farmington Village in Farmington. He was born on December 18, 1927, in Banner, to Estie and Bessie (Henry) Wages. They preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death is one son, Randy Wages, three brothers, Lewis (Nellie) Wages, Roy (Violet) Wages, and Frank Wages, Ray married Clara (O’Bryant) Wages. They were married on September 25, 1946. She preceded him in death on December 1, 2004. He is survived by two daughters, Pamela (Phil) Johns, and Mardelle (Dave) Steck both of Canton, one brother Lloyd (the late Nelda) Wages, Five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren. Ray worked for Caterpillar as an inspector for 40 years. He retired in 1984. He is a Veteran of the United States Navy serving in World War II. Ray is a member of the Canton VFW, American Legion, and Wesley United Methodist Church. He was a lifelong dedicated Chicago Cubs fan. He was a central Illinois Cubs booster since 1945. Ray enjoyed playing pool at the Rec Center at Big Creek Pool. Ray will fondly be membered as a “Cubs fan and a Ford man”. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors will immediately follow at Orendorff Cemetery in Canton. Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, or to Monterey United Methodist Church.
