He was born on May 9, 1948 in Canton to Harlan and Evelyn (Ballard) Banister.
He married Barbara Davis on December 18, 1976 in Canton. She preceded him in death along with one son, Derek Banister.
Surviving are their children, Kristine (Peter) Thill of Davenport, IA, Jennifer (Rick) Nichols of Canton, Jeffrey (Jaclyn) Banister of Mahomet, grandchildren, Lauren, Sarrah, Ethan, Nicholas (Samantha), Katie (Fiancée, Matt Rose), Ryan, Colin, Logan, Aiden, Olivia and Madilyn and one great grandchild, Presley.
Dave served as a medic in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war and later was a member of the Canton American Legion. Whenever he saw a veteran, he would always greet them with a “Welcome Home” gesture. Together with Barb he owned and operated Dave’s Filling Station in Farmington for 13 years. He was the Administrative Assistant at the First Baptist Church in Canton and was also a member. He previously served on the board of LOVE Inc. Dave was also a past volunteer for the Farmington Fire Department.
Most of all, Dave enjoyed spending time with his family, playing poker at gatherings and attending his grandkids’ events.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at 11 am at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with a visitation two hours prior at the funeral home.
Burial of his ashes with military honors will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.
Memorials may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center or Wounded Warriors.
