'Robert L. Glesenkamp, aged 98, died in Havana, Illinois on May 18, 2024. Bob was born on June 4, 1925, in Croswell, MI to Greta Louise Cook Glesenkamp and Frederick Henry Glesenkamp. He lived in Delaware, OH and graduated from Delaware High School in 1943. Bob joined the Naval Air Corps immediately after high school and served as an Aviation Ordinance Man Third Class in World War II in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. He married Annabelle Russell on March 30, 1945 in Delaware, OH. Bob graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology and worked as a Game Biologist in Jackson, MO and then took a job as Game Biologist for the State of Illinois in Monticello and Havana, IL where he worked until he retired in 1985. Bob and Annabelle loved to travel (both tent camping and trailer camping) and visited every state in the United States (except Hawaii), including Alaska which they visited five times and Mexico and extensively in Canada. He also built three homes for the family.
Bob is survived by his wife Annabelle, son David L. (Darlene) Glesenkamp, Plainfield, IN; daughter Margie A. (Dan) Towery, West Lafayette, IN; sister Phyllis J. Brewer, Delaware, OH; brother Richard Glesenkamp, Delaware, OH; grandchildren Andrea Mineo, Jacksonville, FL; Jeffrey (Tina) Stokes, Farmington, IL; Tim Stokes, Pekin, IL and Lisa (Mike Puhalski) Towery, Waterville, VT and five great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his daughter Mary Elaine Stokes and granddaughter Sarah Towery.
Bob was a member of the Havana First United Methodist Church and the Wildlife Society.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana, with Rev. Carol Stufflebeam officiating. A visitation will take place at 10am, an hour before Robert’s service, also at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana. Burial will follow the service at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. Military rites will be provided by VFW Post #6408 and American Legion Post #138.
Memorial donations may be made in Robert’s name to the 1st United Methodist Church in Havana, IL. Online condolences can be left for his family at www.hurleyfh.com.
